Accessibility Arrangements – BIG Shopping Centers Ltd.

BIG Shopping Centers takes its best efforts and invests many resources in order to provide all of its customers equal, respectable, accessible and professional service. In accordance with the Equal Rights for People with Disabilities Law, 5758-1998 and the regulations promulgated thereunder, many efforts and resources are invested in making the necessary accessibility adjustments that will enable a person with disabilities to receive the services provided to all customers in an independent and equal manner.

The accessibility arrangements for all of BIG’s commercial centers, shopping centers and shopping malls.

The existing accessibility arrangements for BIG centers and BIG FASHION shopping centers throughout Israel are as follows:

  • Disabled parking spaces are available, including for tall vehicles.
  • A continuum of access is available from the parking area through the entrances to the shopping center and until the receipt of service to all of the shopping center stores (including elevators).
  • “Hearing loop” type accessories were installed for the hearing impaired in every office of the manager of the commercial center as well as in the offices of the main company management.
  • Accessible disabled lavatories are available.
  • Identification and directional signs are available.
  • The entrance of a service animal, intended to assist a person with a disability, is permitted. 
  • The nature of the accessible shopping centers is built on one level, enabling comfortable and direct passage between the pavements and/or the mall floors and the entrance to the various stores in the center.
  • All public furniture in the areas of the center is accessible and available to all people with disabilities.
  • The parking areas in all of the centers are free of charge, and as such, making it easy for all center visitors, including those with disabilities.
  • All centers have disabled parking spaces adjusted for both private vehicles and large commercial vehicles. Ramps were installed adjacent to all disabled parking spaces, enabling a continuous and standard passage between the disabled parking spaces and the commercial area. All parking spaces are marked with a disabled sign according to the standard, allowing for immediate identification of the allocated area.
  • All centers have traffic signs and posts with clear and easy directions to the disabled parking spaces, escape exits, protected areas, public lavatories and all entrances and exits to and from the center.
  • A hearing loop was installed for the hearing impaired in each office of BIG center.
  • Regular disabled lavatories and A-2 type disabled lavatories were installed in the centers in accordance with Regulation 8.141, Part VIII-1.
  • All elevators and escalators installed in the BIG centers have a discrete lead strip and warning rivets on the floor (in accordance with Regulation 8.78 [C] Section VIII-1.
  • All of the elevators installed in the centers have voice signals for orientation on the various floors and levels of the center.
  • All of the stairwells have handholds, and the beginning and end of the stairs are marked with warning rivets on the floor.
  • All ATMs located in the commercial centers and shopping malls are accessible by means of identification signs and a voice operating system in accordance with Regulation 25 of the Service Accessibility Regulations.
  • Controlled training sessions are held for BIG employees in order to familiarize themselves and assimilate the accessible service awareness to people with disabilities, in accordance with Regulation 88 of the Service Accessibility Regulations.

  • Employee training for accessible service – training sessions are held in order to introduce the area of accessibility, create awareness among employees and provide practical tools for providing accessible services.
